Kansas - Montreal 2026

Kansas brought its progressive-rock legacy to the Montreal area in August 2026, appearing at Place Bell in Laval as part of a classic-rock powerhouse bill featuring Deep Purple and Jefferson Starship. It was the kind of lineup designed to make longtime rock fans feel like they had stepped into another era. (Although Jefferson Starship sucked)

Kansas has always been an interesting live band because its music demands far more than simply playing the hits. Songs like “Carry On Wayward Son” and “Dust in the Wind” are deeply familiar, but the band's progressive material requires musicianship, precision and plenty of energy. The current lineup delivered a set built around that history, giving fans a chance to hear Kansas' biggest songs performed decades after they first became staples of classic rock radio.

The bill itself was almost as entertaining as the individual performances. Deep Purple remained the main attraction, while Kansas provided a strong middle chapter and Jefferson Starship represented another piece of American rock history.

For Kansas fans, the Montreal-area appearance was ultimately about hearing music that has survived remarkably well. “Carry On Wayward Son” still brought the biggest reaction, while “Dust in the Wind” provided the quieter moment. Kansas may no longer be the band that originally recorded those songs, but the music remains powerful enough to fill a modern concert hall.

It was another reminder that progressive rock can still find an enthusiastic audience more than four decades after its commercial peak.
