Laufey - Coachella 2026

Laufey brought something genuinely different to Coachella 2026. While the festival is usually associated with massive pop productions, rock bands, electronic music and booming bass, the Icelandic-Chinese singer-songwriter transformed the Outdoor Theatre into her own elegant musical world. Backed by a jazz band, string quartet and dancers, Laufey delivered one of the weekend's most distinctive performances.

The set moved between the sophisticated jazz-pop sound that made Laufey famous and material from her newer music. Songs including “Lover Girl,” “Falling Behind,” “Silver Lining,” “Bored,” “Valentine,” “Promise,” “Goddess” and “From the Start” gave the audience plenty of familiar moments, while the arrangements allowed her impressive musicianship to remain front and center.

One of the most interesting aspects of the performance was Laufey's ability to move between instruments and roles. She played piano, guitar and cello while handling complicated melodies with remarkable ease. The string arrangements added another layer to the music, making the Outdoor Theatre feel closer to a theatrical concert hall than a typical festival stage.

The show also demonstrated how much Laufey has expanded as a live performer. Her polished presentation, dancers and whimsical staging gave the set a visual personality without overwhelming the music. She balanced old-fashioned jazz influences with a modern pop sensibility, proving that her style can work just as effectively in front of a massive Coachella crowd.

The biggest surprise came at the end. “Sabotage” provided a dramatically different finale, giving the set an explosive conclusion that contrasted sharply with the elegant atmosphere of much of the performance.

At a festival filled with competing sounds and enormous productions, Laufey stood out simply by being herself. Coachella 2026 showed that jazz, classical influences and sophisticated songwriting can still make a major impact on one of the world's biggest festival stages.
