ABC — Microsoft Theater 2017 NEW
ABC's sophisticated pop sound fit perfectly into the 1980s nostalgia surrounding 80's Weekend at Los Angeles' Microsoft Theater in 2017. Frontman Martin Fry led the band through a compact set that highlighted the sharp songwriting, stylish arrangements and memorable melodies that made ABC one of the defining acts of Britain's new wave movement.
“When Smokey Sings” opened the performance, immediately showcasing Fry's distinctive vocals and the band's polished sound. “Poison Arrow” followed with its dramatic hooks, while “(How to Be a) Millionaire” brought a playful burst of energy. The group also introduced material from its later career with “Viva Love,” demonstrating that ABC's musical story extended beyond its early-'80s breakthrough.
“All of My Heart” offered a more emotional moment, while “King Without a Crown,” “Vanity Kills” and “Tears Are Not Enough” kept the set moving through different corners of the catalog. Closing with “The Look of Love (Part One)” and “Be Near Me,” ABC delivered a stylish reminder of the enduring appeal of sophisticated synth-pop.
