Danny Elfman — Aragon Ballroom 2026 NEW

Danny Elfman's appearance at Chicago's Aragon Ballroom in 2026 was a frustrating experience, particularly for anyone hoping to hear the spirit of Oingo Boingo in his performance. Instead of the quirky, energetic new wave and ska-infused rock that made that band so distinctive, the show leaned heavily into darker, industrial-tinged electronic music that felt closer to Gary Numan than the sound many fans came to celebrate.

Elfman has spent years exploring different musical directions, including film scores and experimental compositions, but this performance felt like a long way from the infectious hooks and theatrical fun of his former band. The darker atmosphere and synth-heavy arrangements might have appealed to fans of his more recent work, but they did little to capture the personality and excitement associated with Oingo Boingo.

For longtime fans expecting something resembling “Dead Man's Party,” “Weird Science” or “Who Do You Want to Be,” the disconnect was hard to ignore. Rather than a nostalgic celebration, the evening felt like a disappointing detour into a musical style that simply didn't connect.
